350. Our common goal for the future.

Do you know 350.org yet?

It is an international campaign dedicated to building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis.
Their focus is on the number 350 - as in parts per million, the level scientists have identified as the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere.

BACK THEN.
275 ...parts per million of carbon dioxide
Until about 200 years ago, our atmosphere contained around 275 parts per million of carbon dioxide. This amount was ok, because the atmosphere of our planet needs some CO2 and other greenhouse gases to make live possible.

ALMOST IDEAL - but still fiction.
350 ...parts per million of carbon dioxide This is the level that NASA's James Hansen and other scientists have determined is needed to stabilize the global climate again. This is the safe limit for humanity!

SCARY REALITY.
390 ...parts per million of carbon dioxide
Our planet's atmosphere today contains 390 parts per million CO2.

That number is rising about 2 parts per million every year!
